My favourite chocolate shops in London – a comprehensive guide to the best 24 chocolate shops in London in 2024 including the best chocolates to buy from each shop, history, location and photos.
When I run my chocolate courses, my students always ask me what’s my favourite chocolate and where to find great chocolate shops in London. So, I thought that I’d let you know my favourite chocolate shops in London, the ones I keep coming back to and always take my friends to when they are visiting London.
Over the last 25 years I’ve seen many shops come and go, but it seems that today (2024) there are even more chocolate shops than ever before. For this guide, I’ve included the brick & mortar chocolate shops in London, but if you visit any local food market, you’ll find even more artisan chocolate makers, small chocolate start-ups and passionate people who just love creating something delicious from chocolate for you to try.
How to use my guide to chocolate shops in London
I should also mention, that if you want to visit as many chocolate shops in one day, you should start from the ones that are the further away from the centre (Melange, The Melt, Philip Neal, Dark Sugars, Crosstown, Paul A Young) and then walk around the centre to visit the rest of the shops. If you want to stop in each shop properly, taste the chocolates or stop for a coffee, you will need more than one day to visit all the shops.
If you are short of time, I’d recommend you visit the Selfridges Chocolate Department or the Liberty Chocolate Room first to see a good selection of chocolates from not only the London based chocolate shops, but also from the whole UK.
1. Selfridges Food Court – Chocolate Department
Selfridges chocolate department, which is on the lower floor, is the biggest one and has the biggest selection of chocolates from across the UK and abroad. I make sure I always visit Selfridges when I’m in London to catch up on the latest selections. If you don’t have the time to visit their individual London shops, you can see here chocolates from The Melt, William Curley or Pierre Marcolini among others.
Location: 400 Oxford Street, London, W1A 1AB
2. The Liberty – Chocolate Room
Liberty’s Chocolate Room is tucked away behind the perfume and make up department on the ground floor. You can also use a separate entrance from the back of the department store. The room itself is fairly small, but it’s packed with the best chocolate bars and selection boxes from different UK chocolate producers.
You can find here Rocco Chocolates, Charbonnel et Walker, Crosstown or Montezumas from the London based shops, but also delicious chocolates from the Dorchester or Pump Street (their Dark Chocolate with Sourdough is definitelly one of the most interesting and tasty chocolates I’ve recently tasted). Liberty also has their own chocolate line made for them with beautiful packaging and lovely flavours.
Location: Regent Street, London W1B 5AH, United Kingdom
3. Harrolds Food Hall
Harrods Food Hall includes chocolate counter, where you can select your own chocolate truffles, pralines and other chocolates from an amazingly huge selection.
Location: 87–135 Brompton Road, Knightsbridge, London, SW1X 7XL
4. Fortnum & Mason
Fortnum & Mason’s Food Hall is on the ground floor as you enter the store via main entrance. Fortnum & Mason only sells their own chocolates, but they have a lovely selection in pretty packaging and you can get anything from chocolate bars to novelty chocolates. There is also a large chocolate counter, where you can select chocolate truffles by weight. They also have the most impressive selection of fondant cream chocolates with the most flavours I’ve ever seen!
Location: 181 Piccadilly, St. James’s, London W1A 1ER
5. Rococo Chocolates
Rococo Chocolates were founded in 1983 by Chantal Coady OBE , who started the company with the aim of changing the way fine chocolate was perceived and appreciated. She began her journey with a single shop on London’s King’s Road, and over the years, Rococo Chocolates has become synonymous with innovative chocolates.
Rococo’s chocolates are crafted with a focus on ethical cocoa sourcing and sustainability and the packaging always looks lovely too. The company believes that to make the best possible chocolate, one must use the best possible ingredients.
I’ve always liked Rococo chocolates, pretty much everything I’ve tasted over the years was delicious and very different to other chocolates. I really like the Cardamon White or El Gray Dark Chocolate bars, the selection chocolate truffles and the Praline Jersey Potatoes are just too delicious to share!
Shop Location: 321 King’s Road, Chelsea, SW3 5EP

6. Paul A Young
Paul A. Young is an award-winning chocolatier based in London, who creates innovative and high-quality handmade chocolates. He began his chocolate journey in 2006 and has since become one of the most respected figures in the industry. Paul A. Young and his team of chocolatiers make chocolate truffles, brownies, and chocolate bars, all made fresh in-store every day.
Whilst I’ve always enjoyed Paul A. Young chocolates and get super excited about any new flavour combinations, the actual taste is sometimes not as strong as I’d like it to be. But, you know, that could be just my taste buds! The chocolate itself is always a great quality and the chocolate brownies are super delicious.

The shop has some amazing handcrafted chocolates, truffles, and vegan treats, all of which are made using traditional chocolate making techniques and high-quality ingredients.
And whilst you are choosing your chocolate truffles selection you also have to try their famous hot chocolate, which is made from real chocolate. I’ve tasted quite a few different chocolate truffles there and the flavours are always very well balanced and the chocolate amazingly rich and strong (in the best kind of way).

9. Hotel Chocolat
Hotel Chocolat is a British chocolatier and cocoa grower, founded by Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris in 1993 with the first shop opening in 2003. Hotel Chocolat has established itself as one of the leading premium chocolate brands in the UK and you can find one of their shops in most large towns across Britain. I’m yet, to be convinced that the recent acquisition by Mars Inc. was a step in the right direction, but completely understand that after 30 years, you just can’t keep going and going…and things do have to change. Let’s hope that the chocolate quality remains the same and the sugar levels will stay down…
Hotel Chocolate is the only UK company, that I know of, that grows their own cocoa, although it’s not enough for their whole production, so they buy the rest in. The Rabot Estate farm is in Saint Lucia and you can visit the farm and even stay there on holiday.
Hotel Chocolat’s product range is extensive, from chocolate bars, truffles, pralines, novelty chocolates, hot chocolate and seasonal gifts. If you want to try something really special, go for the Saint Lucia Single Origin Chocolate – the taste of the chocolate comes from where the tree grows, from the soil and environment and without any extra flavouring. Its a pretty special thing to taste.

You might already know Crosstown for their amazingly tasty handmade luxury sourdough doughnuts, but did you know that they have recently started to sell chocolate bars?
